what type of visa is needed to work in the Philippines

Before starting work at a fully licensed Philippine-based company, these foreign nationals must comply with mandatory submissions from several government agencies.

Foreign nationals who wish to work for three months or longer in the Philippines must obtain a work permit. A Special Working Permit is required for short-term assignments for temporary positions lasting 3 to 6 months (SWP).

An employee working for more than six months in the Philippines will require an Alien Employment Permit (AEP). The employee is also expected to have a work visa in the Philippines for longer periods like this.

What are the requirements to work in the Philippines

To work in the Philippines as a retired expat you need to have a few documents.

1. Work Visa

• You need to get your work visa, referred to as the 9(G) visa, before you can begin working as an expat in the Philippines.
• Maybe your employer will apply for you to get the visa you need. They will also need to provide evidence that this job vacancy can not be filled by someone living in the Philippines.
• Plan on working more than six months in the Philippines? You will be required to apply for your visa at the Consulate of the Philippines or in the Philippines.
• If, on the other hand, you intend to work there for less than six months, you will be able to apply to the authorities an application for a Special Work Permit.

2. Alien Employment Permit

• In addition to submitting a work visa application, you may also need to request a Philippines Alien Job Permit application (AEP).
• This paper will be published by the Philippine Department of Labour and Jobs.
• Usually, this permit will be valid for a year, but its validity will also depend on your employment contract.

3. Provisional Permit to Work

• As a foreign national, you will need to obtain a provisional work permit issued by the Bureau of Immigration pending your visa’s approval.
• The Bureau of Immigration will provide this permit.
• Usually, this is true for three months.
