After you made the big decision to move to the Philippines, you need to remember a few things to do and create a “moving to the Philippines checklist.” The following is a list of things you should do 30 days before your move to the Philippines. Remember, this is a permanent or at least a semi-permanent move halfway around the world. You want to make sure that you keep these items in mind so your move can be as smooth as possible.

At Least 30 Days Prior, moving checklist.

1. Before you pass, have approved copies of all essential documents to hand over to a trusted source.

2.  Ship Them If you Use Balikbayan Boxes. If you use containers for delivery, make plans to have them shipped to the Philippines. I’d suggest that you send as many products as possible.

3. Twenty-eight. Contact The Utility Departments And Ask Them To Discontinue The Various Services.

4. Change the name on the utility bills before you pass if you rent your house out.

5. Bring a cash deposit that you can turn into pesos in the Philippines once you arrive.

6.  Let her know what kind of support you want to give her family if you are married to a Filipina or plan to marry one once you arrive.

7.  Cancel all unnecessary insurance premiums.

8.  Pay off all unpaid bills from all of your utility providers and keep copies of your final bills.

9.  Make sure it is open to anyone who wants your forwarding address.

10.  Pack all your necessary things for your flight to the Philippines, including passports and other essential documents you need.

At Least 60 Days Prior to moving.

 1. For foreign calls, I suggest Viber, Skype, or Facebook / Facebook Messenger. Some expats say that Fb/Fb Messenger is better for calling the Philippines than Skype. Fb/Fbm uses less bandwidth, which causes fewer delays and problems during video or voice chatting.

2. Twenty. Have a configured online banking account. If necessary, set up an account in your home country with a bank in the Philippines with offices.

3.  Inform and communicate to your bank that you are going abroad. Make sure you can use some debit or credit cards at your place in the Philippines.

4.  Set up direct debits with your banks, such as mortgage payments, debt repayments, savings, and pension accounts, you will still be making for any bill payments.

5.  Put it on the market now if you are selling your car or big household appliances.

6.  In the Philippines, find out the generic and local names of any prescription drugs that you may need. Take an extensive supply with you along with documentation, such as a prescription from a doctor, for customs once you reach the Philippines

7.  Have a yard sale and sell something to the Philippines that you don’t plan to import. Donate Anything You Don’t Sell to the Salvation Army Or Goodwill.

At Least 90 Days Prior to moving.

1. Have a comprehensive, well-organized strategy for moving to the Philippines!

 2. Book Your Airline Tickets And Hotels.

3. Have a guaranteed income source.

4. Get your permanent visa from your home country if you’re married to a Filipino.

5. Make sure you’ve got a valid passport. The six-month validity condition for the Philippines has now been lifted.

6. Get all of your required shots and medications.

7. Make sure if you have a driver’s license that it is still valid. For 90 days upon arrival, you can use your driver’s license in the Philippines. If it has not expired, the license can be upgraded to a Philippine Driver’s License with no written examinations or driving tests.

8. Ask for copies of your medical records, like your dentist, family doctor, and optometrist. A simplified version of your history will be given to you by most medical offices. Start packing things in the next three months that you don’t need and mark them: books, pictures, jewelry.

9. Make a checklist of all packaging boxes and what material they contain.

10. Contact local rental agencies for assistance, and make small repairs if you intend to rent out your house and need help to find tenants.

11. Put it on the market now if you’re looking to sell your home.

12. Always make sure your passport up to date and valid for the Philippines. Validity requirements for six months have now been lifted for the Philippines.

13. Notify the Post Office and fill out the Address Change Form. U.S. retired military personnel may use the Postal Military System (Mps)

14. Philippines Study Where to Live.

15. Pay all of your debts off and cut all your credit cards down.

16. Build a folder of all your relevant documents with all the hard copies and paperwork.

17. Build an All Saved Files folder on your computer.

18.  Build a tax and finance folder with any details on your taxes that can be claimed.

Summary of your Moving to the Philippines Checklist.

Following the above checklists will make your life easy and your transfer to the Philippines smoother. Remember, there are many more items you’ll need to do as each person’s individual list will vary. Make sure you allow plenty of time for processing special items for shipping to the Philippines prior to your arrival. 

It takes approximately six to eight weeks for items shipped to get to their location. If you live close to Manila, that might take a few weeks off. If you live further away from Manila, such as Davao or other cities, it will take longer. 

All in all, use a list and check it off, check it twice, and make sure that everything that you want and need to do is achieved. Good luck in your travels.
